Is it time to brush up on your brushing? Sometimes, brushing becomes a mindless habit, and it becomes less than effective. Here are some things to remember as you get back to the basics.
First–if you are not brushing twice a day for 2 minutes each time, start! If you have a hard time spending that much time on your teeth, try setting a timer. Or, listen to your favorite song for 2 minutes! Before you realize, the time will be done and your teeth will be clean. Be sure to brush all surfaces of your teeth, including chewing surfaces and your very back teeth.
Second–When you replace your toothbrush (once every 3-4 months), be sure to grab one with the ADA Seal of Acceptance on the label. This is more than a logo; this seal indicates that the product has passed rigorous testing for safety and effectiveness.
Third–Make sure to support your brushing habit with an equally strong flossing habit. Flossing or other interdental cleaning should be accomplished once every day! This should take 2-3 minutes each time. If you have trouble with conventional floss, you can ask our team at El Cerro Dental for recommendations on other interdental cleaners.
Finally, make sure to make a habit of coming into the dentist regularly! If you are in the Danville, California area, call us at 925-837-8564 to make an appointment. Dr. Gary Cappelletti and our team will be happy to see you!
