As toothpaste have mild abrasives, and the act of brushing is inherently abrasive, brushing your teeth immediately after eating can actually be harmful to your teeth and gums. Try chewing sugar-free gum for 20 minutes instead. This stimulates saliva flow, which in turn fights cavities. Make sure to get a product that actually helps your teeth.
The American Dental Association– The American Dental Association has a program called the ADA Seal of Acceptance. It is a seal placed on products that have proven, through rigorous testing, that they are beneficial for mouth health and do what they say they will do. It can be found on toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwashes, even chewing gum. This is a great way to make sure you are buying a quality product.
